Have compassion
Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for suffering or misfortunes of others.
At its core, compassion drives people to help those in need, promotes meaningful connections, facilitates problem-solving and improves health and wellbeing.
It’s about understanding the struggles of another person and wanting to help.
In times of crisis, compassion often emerges as a powerful force. Whether it’s neighbors helping neighbors during natural disasters or strangers donating to relief funds, acts of empathy and care make recovery possible.
Compassion motivates people to act selflessly, prioritizing others’ well-being over personal gain.
Medical professionals, teachers, first responders and caregivers often embody compassion in their daily work. Their commitment to serving others highlights the human capacity for deep understanding and sacrifice.
As communities face challenges daily, compassion remains a crucial tool for healing and unity. It requires effort and intention, but the rewards of connection, understanding and hope are well worth it.
In a society driven by progress and productivity, compassion calls on people to slow down and see one another.
Recently, Texas has experienced some of the worst flooding in the Hill Country since 1987.
The Hill Country has many tributaries and rivers coursing through it which makes it a prime spot for flooding when intense rainfall drops on the area.
Along with the devastation came overwhelming help responses from celebrities, sports teams, volunteers, first responders and more.
Compassion was brimming over because as humans we should be compassionate towards others. The Golden Rule of “treat others as you would want to be treated” is something we should follow.
Paul said in Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.”
Humans have always shown an innate sense of compassion when times have been difficult.
But a downside to that is how cold and callous people can be in times of crisis also. Or even on a daily basis.
Some of the remarks and statements you see online just make you sick. The Bible tells of these things that are and will be. Things are happening in this day and time that doesn’t make any sense at all, but Jesus told us why in Matthew 24:12 - And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
The world is getting colder in some places. Compassion seems to be it’s non-existent.
People are turning a blind eye, cutting you off and shutting their ears to you when you desire to be heard.
We need change. We need to pay it forward. We need to help where we can. We need compassion back.
Things can change and it starts with us.
