Visiting Hughes Springs

There’s something happy about Hughes Springs.

Maybe it’s the way the town secretary answers the telephone and then takes care of your question. Helpful.

Maybe it’s the way the new fire department is painted red and black. These are the school’s colors. Giddy-up, Mustangs.

Maybe it’s the way flowers and parks, medallions and monuments, and an eternal stream of water flowing in the park all seem well-cared for. This is thanks to the town’s staff, not professional landscapers.

Maybe it’s inside the city offices where last year’s Wildflower Trails tee shirts are on a table for sale at $5 each. Help yourself and the town. Also notice these city offices are surrounded by flowers.

The town’s library is striking with its displays well presented. Several buildings on Main Street have their walls painted with large historic scenes.

As for personal necessities, take a look at the new public restroom building in Spring Park, which came about two years ago. It’s attractive. One is complimented if needing to go here.

Finally, there’s The Legacy, arguably the most beautiful reception hall in the region. It can serve 400 and be rented for $2,200 to $2, 400. Well done, Hughes Springers! This is who you are.

Whatever the reason, one has a good feeling about Hughes Springs. So why is Hughes Springs happy? Maybe part of the answer is that one given a week ago by City Manager Tim Lambert. He was asked what is one of the chief concerns of his office?

“Well, to make things look good for our citizens is one of them,” he said first thing, right off the bat.

So here are a few pictures of Hughes Springs. Take a look.
