It is Finished!
In the history of mankind there have never been three words spoken that held so much meaning and power!
Words that communicated a finished work, victory, freedom, deliverance and a never-ending love!
It was in that instance when Jesus said, “it is finished!” that He and He alone conquered satan, death and hell!
It was in that instance that reconciliation with the Lord was opened unto us! That the true hand of mercy was extended to us! That the opportunity to approach God through our High Priest, the Great Mediator was given to us!
He gave His life on the cross so that we might be saved! He stepped down into darkness from His marvelous light so that we might be saved!
He came to destroy the works of the devil so that we might be saved! He was about His Father’s business so that we might be saved! Jesus said that the Spirit of the Lord anointed Him to preach the gospel to the poor; that the Father sent Him to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, help the blind to see, to set at liberty them that are bruised and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
He sealed all of that and more when he proclaimed, “it is finished!”. The debt is paid! Paid in full! The work is complete! Done is the work of the Father!
He laid down His life for His friends, showed the full extent of His love, completed His task in obedience to the Father and His will, and He poured out His blood as an offering for sin and our redemptive atonement.
It is finished! When Jesus hung on the Cross, He offered His own blood for the permanent removal of sin.
When He said, “It is finished!” He was declaring the ultimate Sacrifice had been made!
Atonement was completed, perfected, and fully accomplished! When Jesus exclaimed, “It is finished!”, It was a turning point in the entire history of mankind, for at that moment the justice of God had been fully met and satisfied by the Lamb of God.
All the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus’ earthly ministry were fulfilled. Jesus paid the price for your salvation, for your liberation, for your physical healing, for your complete restoration and for your eternity.
When the price for your forgiveness was complete, Jesus bowed His head and died.
God’s justice had been fulfilled. The Old Covenant had ended and the New Covenant had begun. It was the fulfillment of one and the beginning of another.
It is not God’s will that any should perish! Jesus said, “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.”
If we confess our sins and live justly and righteously then God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
There are no hallelujahs without it is finished, there is no salvation without it is finished, there is no defeating of satan without it is finished, there is no resurrection, hope, joy, mercy or victory without it is finished!
