The guests are arriving for a recent festival. The historic home and grounds are a welcoming sight. Plenty of room, grass and shade. Do you know where and what this is?

WHERE IS IT?

WHERE

Here’s a Where Is it that really is something of a mystery. Do you know what is going on in this picture and where it is?

It’s something, of course, in Cass County. But it’s off in the southwest corner and not so often crossed. Here’s a hint. It takes a festival, several good restaurants and many creative folks to make this activity succeed. Where Is It?

Answer

Avinger’s Wine Festival each spring likes to call itself “the festival with a difference.” It has a personality. If you attend, you find fine wine, neighborly folk and artisan vendors. Here’s a bit of its history: In 2012, Avinger established a CRESS Community Foundation as a community non-profit foundation to raise money for student scholarships, support the food pantry, VFD and other reasons.

Then came the idea of the birth of a wine festival. It was a smashing success from start and was tweaked to get better. The town’s historic home with spacious grounds is a perfect spot for a wine garden.

The wine and flower festival happens for one day during the Texas Wildflower Trails celebration. The garden is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Several of the rules and accommodations are these: — Winery fee $70 — $15 entry ticket includes wine glass and wine bag. No one under 12.

— Hospitality room for vendors has coffee, muffins, fruit and variety of snacks.

— No glass or open bottles outside wine garden gate. — Volunteers will assist with unloading, parking. — Nearby Avinger Station RV Park. For more, Avinger Wine Fest, Avinger, TX 75630. Also PO Box 236. Phone 903-631-6107. Email: text avingerwinefestival13@ gmail.com.
