Newspapers versus social media
They say newspapers are barely hanging on in this instant news world. Let’s look at the differences between newspapers and social media.
They both serve different roles. Newspapers are typically printed and require distribution but have come around to digital marketing. Social media is digital and accessible.
Newspapers often have editorial standards and fact-checking processes. Social media content can vary widely in reliability, sometimes lacking verification.
Newspapers provide more passive reading experiences. Social media encourages active engagement through comments and likes.
Even though the paper comes out once a week, it has pictures of right-then photos. Traditional media refers to any form of mass communication available before the introduction of digital media, therefore traditional media includes television, radio, newspaper, magazine and books.
Traditional media offers only one-way communication. The audience receives messages through the media, but the media does not get direct feedback.
You can get copies of the paper from years ago and find out what your parents looked like in high school and what sports they played. You can copy those articles and photos and put them into memory books or frames.
Newspapers are physical history in your hands while social media depends on the internet. If there is a breakdown in the internet connection you cannot access any social media platform, however, traditional media is not dependent on the internet.
The newspaper I work for is nearly 150 years old and still publishes community news, because that is very important to us.
We find stories right here in Cass County to report to the public and let you know who got married, birth announcements and area sports.
We report on what roads are closed and why and what the weather will be like or what has happened because of it.
Reading a newspaper is good for everyone. The big difference between social media and traditional media is that social media offers two-way communication, whereas traditional media offers one way.
Let us know how you feel about our work. God bless everyone.
