DVP thanks Law’s Chapel Church

The Law’s Chapel Methodist Church of Atlanta serves the community and residents of Cass County. Every month their Outreach Committee selects a charity or cause as the church’s monthly mission. Once a charity or organization is selected, the committee and church members donate personally to the cause. Then the church matches the donation, which doubles the amount given.

In February, the committee selected Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. (DVP) as the organization to focus on. The church committee members donated weekly for a total of $1,535. Then the church matched the funds, bringing it to a total of $3,070.

This money was used to purchase supplies and pay for upgrades for the Hidden Treasures Resale store and for the DVP outreach office, which was badly needed.

Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc., was selected for several reasons. DVP helps with domestic violence situations, crisis intervention, and sexual assault victims. DVP has a staff that can assist with safety planning, legal guidance, and obtaining a protective order.

Clients are also encouraged to work with a staff counselor and attend free group meetings. In emergency situations, during family life transitions, and when needed, DVP has a shelter for women and their children located in Texarkana. For those without transportation and if needed, DVP can assist with providing transportation to this shelter.

DVP has a newly renovated office in Atlanta. The DVP office in Atlanta can assist with any domestic violence questions, questions about assault, safety planning, education, community information and financial aid information.
