Field tour taken at Snowden Farms
The Texas Forestry Association hosted a field tour on the Snowden Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year last Friday.
Charles and Sue Snowden, of Atlanta, were named the 2025 Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year.
The Snowden’s manage their tree farm for timber production and wildlife, specifically deer, duck and squirrel and their pond is managed for fish. They keep a complete history of their excellent Tree Farm management, including forestry and wildlife work, planting, harvesting, prescribed burn, and more.
The tour was for landowners, loggers, foresters and anyone else who was interested in timberland management.
Presentations included Wildfire Management Priorities, Landowner Tactical Preferences and Protection of Natural Resources.
Tour stops included mulching, prescribed burn, food plots, lightning trees, water bars, shallow water enhancements, Indian ceremonial mound, cypress tree planting, creek crossings, hardwood regeneration, fish management, dry hydrant, site index, logging sets and burn frequency.
Attendees of the tour made the scenic trip on hay-covered trailers and ATVs.
