Charles Ellingburg of the Eagle Landing community near Avinger has been participating in the Texas Wildflower Trails festival art show for years now. It’s part of his three careers in life. He’s been a prison warden and a church pastor, but the “happiest day of my life in retirement was when I won honorable mention in a Hughes Springs festival art show,” he said in an interview.

“Maybe it’s time for me to keep this up and start enjoying myself,” he said he told himself.

So, he did. He built himself an art studio in his home and retires there quite often.

For this past Wildflower Trails art show in Linden, he won first, second and third place in the single mixed-media category. The three paintings are pictured here.

The festival art show drew 32 adults, 20 high school, 16 junior high and 21 elementary students, according to the art show committee chairperson Gail Dorgan.
