E-Waste Recycle Day

The Amity Club’s E-Waste Recycle Day Saturday filled more than 16 pallet boxes with unnecessary electronic waste while salvaging viable parts, according to club president Julia Braun.

“The day has been a huge success for almost two decades,” Braun said.

More than a dozen youth and adult volunteers turned out to meet the steady stream of traffic at the Guard-Line loading dock in the Atlanta Business Park.

While some objects being tossed away were a bit heavy, the young people were able to lift and stack the items easily.

Pay for the “work” was pizza delivered during the noon hour.

The students were Madison Broughton, Aaliyah Smith, Travis Jones, Andrew Horsley, Evan Woods, Avery King, Weston Huett, Miranda Pearce, Zoe Moore and Olivia Beauchamp.

The electronic items were delivered to UNICOR which is a Federal Prison Industry operating a nation-wide network of electronic recycling centers where inmates convert donated electronics into recyclable material for resale to registered vendors.
