E-waste event this Saturday
Electronic waste will be collected for the 18th season this Saturday, May 3 in Atlanta. The service is a project of the Atlanta Amity Study Club ’s concern for conservation. The event is being called E-Waste Recycle Day.
Collection times will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the loading dock behind Guard-Line, 1001 Progress Drive in Atlanta. This is in the Atlanta Business Park.
In years past, sometimes 100 cars or so have pulled into the collection site. Some 22,000 pounds requiring 20 pallets were once collected. Some items such as washing machines, refrigerators, dryers and freezers are not accepted. Cell phones are donated to Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc.
The waste collected is given to UNICOR for recycling to be done through vocational training programs in the federal prison system.
