Track Regional Qualifiers

Local track athletes were on full display at Area competitions across east Texas last week.

Both Atlanta’s varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ teams won Area titles and Linden-Kildare’s varsity girls’ squad placed second overall.

First through fourth place finishers in each event qualified for Regionals.

Atlanta Boys

Markeylin Batton was the Area champion in the 100m dash; Ian Bard placed fourth in the 800m run, third in the 1600m run and second in the 3200m run; Marquayvious Richardson placed second in the 300m hurdles; Jayden Riley placed fourth in long jump; Aidan Boston placed second in high jump; Tevin Thursby placed fourth in discus and Kheaton Kinney and Kameron Williams placed 3-4 respectively in shot put.

The 4x100m relay team of Sye Stroman, Riley, Dre Simmons and Batton placed second; the 4x200m relay team of Stroman, Simmons, Kayden Linwood and Batton placed third and the 4x400m relay team of Stroman, Simmons, Richardson and Linwood was crowned Area champs after a first-place finish.

Atlanta Girls

The Lady Rabbs won the Area title by 46.5 points in a dominating display.

Markavia Garner placed third in the 200m dash; Lucy Ransom placed fourth in the 800m run and second in the 1600m run; Ella Stewart placed fourth in the 1600m run and second in the 3200m run; Emma Allen placed fourth in the 3200m run; Ryleigh Thompson was crowned Area champ in the 100m hurdles after a first-place finish; Maggee Winters placed third in the 100m hurdles and third in pole vault; Elliana Edwards placed fourth in the 300m hurdles and Aysia Heard had herself a day as she won two Area titles after finishing first in triple jump and high jump then placing second in the long jump event.

Queen City Boys

Lincoln Moore was crowned Area champ in pole vault; Daketrick Smith placed third in the 200m dash and fourth in triple jump; David Jackson placed second in shot put and Leevi Byrum placed second in discus.

Queen City Girls

Makenna Hamilton placed second in discus; Bella Brown placed third in the 800m run; Mallory Hamilton placed second in the 100m hurdles and Kaylin Griffin placed second in pole vault.

Atlanta and Queen City athletes will compete at Regionals on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 in Whitehouse.

Linden-Kildare Boys Landon Farrington placed second in high jump.

Linden-Kildare Girls Jamiah Birmingham was crowned Area champion in both triple jump and long jump; Devonna Linwood placed third in discus and the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams of Jakiah Birmingham, Kalysa Roberts, Summer Gibson and Jamiah Birmingham were all Area champions after three solid first-place finishes.

L-K athletes will compete at Regionals on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 in Palestine.
