Local cheer teams compete at State

On Jan. 16, our coverage schools sent their varsity cheer squads to the UIL Spirit State Championships in Ft. Worth. The ladies and their coaches had an incredible time. Atlanta Atlanta competed in the NCA December Virtual Regional Competition with 23 cheerleaders, two mascots and fully supported by over 10 alternates, managers and coaches.

“This competition gave us the opportunity to record two times recordings in a set time in December then choose which routine to submit,” Head Coach Krystl Dawn said. “After submitting, we were able to receive judging and feedback on our routine. We competed again at the McKinney Invitational on Jan. 11 and at State in Ft. Worth on Jan. 16.”

Dawn added that the group as whole were really excited with their success.

“We are ecstatic with our success, but we recognize that the competition will only grow more intense from here,” Dawn said. “This dedicated group of athletes is fully committed to upholding the legacy of excellence that defines Atlanta Cheer, and we are determined to continue our strong track record of success.” McLeod McLeod coaches Susan Ragland and Jessica Deel were just as excited about the Lady Longhorns’ cheer team competing at the State stage.

“Our experience at the UIL State Cheer Competition was nothing short of incredible,” Ragland remarked. “The energy, teamwork, and school spirit were unmatched as we came together to showcase our hard-work and dedication.”

“We are so proud of how our team represented our school at their very first competition and can’t wait to take everything we learned to continue growing and improving,” Ragland continued. “Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way.”

The Lady Bulldogs’ cheer team had an unbelievable time as well and finished sixth place after it was all said and done.

“We had the incredible honor of competing at the UIL State Spirit Championship,” Head Coach Savanna Blalock said. “After an exciting day filled with energy, teamwork, and impressive performances, we are proud to share that we earned sixth place.”

“This achievement reflects the dedication, hard work, and teamwork that each member of our squad put in. We are so grateful for the unwavering support from our coaches, families, and fans throughout this journey,” Blalock added. “This experience has motivated us to continue pushing forward, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.”
