Wreck involving two semi-trucks near Hughes Springs

On Thursday, January 30, one person was taken to a hospital after a wreck happened near Hughes Springs, involving two semi trucks and an SUV.

According to the driver of the involved JBS Carriers semi, Tomas Padilla, he was heading westbound, towards Hughes Springs on his way back home in Mount Pleasant. That’s when the eastbound semi-truck, owned by Sweet Express of Grand Rapids, Michigan, drifted into his lane and struck Padilla’s driver-side mirror and one of his rear tires. The other truck then hit an SUV, causing it to spin out and come to rest in a westbound ditch.

Padilla said there was major damage to the SUV, with multiple airbag deployments, as well as damage to the cab of the semi that struck the SUV.

According to Texas DPS Public Information Officer, Sergeant Ethan Sartor, the drivers of both semis were not injured. However, the driver of the SUV was transported to Titus Regional Center in Mount Pleasant and a citation was issued to both truck drivers for Failure to Drive in a Single Lane.
