Sports Year in Review for 2024
CHAMPIONS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY The CCA Lady Champs opened their 2024 season and the NTAA District on the road in Paris. The final set came down to the wire.
ATLANTA Band
The Big Bad Band from Rabbit Land performed their show titled WANTED at the UIL State Marching Contest and won second place overall.
Football
Atlanta’s football team won its game against Hooks, 28-21.
Atlanta Middle School’s football teams thumped New Boston as the seventh-grade team destroyed New Boston 44-0 and the eighth-grade team won 40-6.
Atlanta’s varsity football squad outlasted the New Boston Lions 21-14.
The AMS Rabbs dominated Mount Vernon as the seventh-grade team won 38-0 and the eighth-grade team won 44-6.
Atlanta’s varsity football squad beat Mount Vernon 60-17.
AMS Rabbs toppled White Oak to start district play as the seventh-grade team won 14-10, the eighth-grade team won 43-6 and the B team won 426.
Atlanta hosted White Oak for its first district game of the year and won the slugfest 71-40.
The AMS Rabbs battled Jefferson and the eighthgrade team won 36-0 and the B team won 24-0.
Atlanta’s varsity football team defeated the Sabine Cardinals 50-0.
The AMS Rabbs swept the Sabine Cardinals as the seventh-grade team won 38-0, the eighth-grade team won 42-7 and the B team won 18-0.
The AMS Rabbs dominated Liberty-Eylau as the seventh-grade team won 40-16, the eighth-grade team won 24-16 and the B team won 28-21.
The Atlanta Middle School Rabbs battle Tatum and the eighth-grade A team won 44-8, the seventh-grade B team won 14-0 and the eighth-grade B team won 36-6. Atlanta was firing on all cylinders last Friday night as they beat Tatum 42-7 in a district contest.
Atlanta secured third place in district with a 35-7 win over Gladewater.
The AMS Rabbits finish the season with big wins over Gladewater. The seventh-grade team won 30-0, the eighth-grade team won 26-0 and the B team won 21-14.
Other
Marcellous Kirk and Carlajah Adger were crowned Homecoming King and Queen before Atlanta’s football game against White Oak last Friday night.
Melissa Waddell, Duncan Thompson and Richard “Bull” Johnson were honored as the Atlanta Athletics hall of fame Class of 2024.
Atlanta senior Libero Carlajah Adger was named District 14-3A MVP and was selected to play in the BSN All-Star Match on Dec. 8 in Longview.
Cross Country
Atlanta High School cross country runners Ella Stewart and Lucy Ransom represented AHS at the State Cross Country Meet this season.
Basketball
The AMS boys’ basketball teams down DeKalb as the 8A team won 38-24, the 7A team won 36-18 and the 7B team won 18-10 and the 8B team won 43-8.
The AMS boys’ teams sweep Liberty-Eylau as the 8A team won 44-36, the 7A team won 36-19 and the 7B team won 12-4 and the 8B team won 29-9.
The Rabbs used a big second quarter push to jump ahead and stay ahead as they topped McLeod 59-40.
The Atlanta Middle School Rabbs swept Queen City as the 8A team won 48-10, the 7A team won 47-44 and the 7B team won 15-4 and the 8B team won 31-7.
Atlanta Middle School battled 5A schools in a tourney. The 8A team beat Hallsville 42-23, the 7A team beat Hallsville 34-23 and Jacksonville 37-28, the 8B team beat Jacksonville 23-20 and the 7B team beat Jacksonville 38-4 and Whitehouse 26-14.
The Atlanta Middle School boys’ teams swept Hooks as the 8A team won 49-27, the 7A team won 46-15 and the 7B team won 28-7 and the 8B team won 23-0.
LINDEN-KILDARE Volleyball
Linden-Kildare’s varsity volleyball squad defeated Union Grove and moved to 3-0 in district play.
Other
Dominique Mack and Evey Lansdale were crowned Linden-Kildare Homecoming King and Queen before last Friday night’s game against Detroit.
MCLEOD Cross Country
McLeod’s middle school girls’ cross-country team was crowned champions of the McLeod Cross Country Meet last weekend.
Basketball
McLeod dug its way out of an early deficit against Avery on Nov. 19 and used a second-half explosion to beat the Bulldogs 41-33.
McLeod led 9-4 after the first frame and never looked back as the Lady Longhorns (7-3) beat the Lady Bulldogs 29-10.
McLeod’s JV girls’ team won the Union Grove JV tournament championship.
McLeod junior high ballers swept Big Sandy. The seventh-grade girls won 25-12, the eighth-grade girls won 34-6, the seventh-grade boys won 25-16 and the eighth-grade boys won 31-14.
McLeod’s varsity girls team defeated rival Bloomburg 41-1 on Dec. 3.
QUEEN CITY Other
Hunter Parker and Antonianna Gamble were crowned Homecoming King and Queen and the Football Sweetheart was Kylie Parker.
Dori Sasser was named the Blocker MVP after the All-District volleyball list was released.
Nick Pace was named the District 10-3A Utility Player of the Year and Brayden Wiley was named the Special teams Player of the Year for the Bulldog football squad.
