The most common image seen walking around the Hometown Christmas event Friday, Dec. 20, was that of a parent, relative or friend carrying a wrapped up youngster in arms or on the shoulder.

The four-hour event was cold, and it took some walking around to become acclimated.

But once the youngsters were out of lap and arms, once the adult began to be as active as the child, all was fine.

Here are a few of the things the holiday citizen found to engage with: -- mini train

-- real reindeer with sharply pointed antlers -- an apparently real skating rink. (The slips and toppling over were certainly real.)

-- Santa Claus himself for a perfect picture in an outdoor living room -- Lots of colored lights, Christmas music and store interiors giving the appearance of a fairy land.

Hometown Christmas is certainly a fun event that tries to put forward a small town’s magic, memory and charm. Some 28 local stores and organizations were given thanks for funding the event.
