Water challenges hit area

On October 18, East Hiram’s waterline broke. Work started at approximately midnight. According to City Manager Danica Porter, the switch has been made to the new water tower, and the water pressure is greater than that of the previous tower, causing some breaks. They are currently working on the issue. Atlanta ISD classes were canceled.

Also, on the 18th, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the public water system of Eastern Cass Water Supply Corporation, (ID 0340068) to issue a Boil Water Notice (BWN) to inform their customers that due to the presence of contaminants or an interruption in service when they had a damaged water main on CR 4677, water from their system must have been boiled prior to consumption.

That advisory was rescinded on the 20th. “Our system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore adequate pressure, disinfectant levels, and/or bacteriological quality and has provided TCEQ with testing results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling as of December 20, 2024.”
