Christmas Dinners
The Fairview Jr-Sr High School Reunion Corporation will host its 12th annual memorial Christmas Give Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Fairview Community Center, 606 County Road 1625 in Linden.
Some 125 Christmas dinner boxes will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The dinners will contain turkey, ham and trimmings necessary for one complete dinner.
The Christmas gift event honors the late M. J. and Audrey Mae Barrett.
The Fairview Reunion Corporation celebrated a first reunion in 1981 with the intention to keep alive the memory of the Fairview School. The Rev. John Givens initiated the idea, and with the aid of other Fairview alumni put together an honorary program for the former principal of 31 years, Samuel Houston Hennington, Sr.
Since then the organization has raised money for scholarships to area youth as well as constructing the center building which was completed in 2007. The Christmas Give is also a part of the corporation’s activity.
The corporation is a 501 (c) (3) charitable and community based organization which seeks to remain relevant and support the community by “caring and sharing.”
