Devastating house fire claims two lives
In the late hours of Monday, Nov. 25, first responders were called to a severe house fire in the Tanglewood Dr. neighborhood of Atlanta, which claimed the lives of Diana Fulks and her great-grandson. His name has not been released. Fulks’ husband, Gary, was rushed to a Dallas hospital for burn treatment and he was discharged to continue recovery at home on Thanksgiving Day.
Among the first responders to reach the scene were Cass County ESD No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 as well as the Linden Fire Department and Atlanta 4701 Firefighters Association.
“Diana Fulks was a long-time supporter and active member of the Friends of the Library,” a post by staff of the Atlanta Public Library read on their Facebook page. “She cooked the meat for the Friends taco soup, made fudge for the Chocolate Party, sold quilt raffle tickets, and worked hard at the book sale for many years. Diana was also a member of the Nimble Thimbles Quilting Club and had extraordinary talent as a creative quilt artist.”
A prayer meeting was held by the community the following evening at 6 p.m. in the Tanglewood neighborhood. Over 50 people came to support and lift up the family in prayer.
A GoFundMe was also put together and shared on Nov. 27 by neighbor, Kristin Breashears, with a goal of raising $5,000 to cover items such as clothing and medications, and cremation expenses. The goal was met and exceeded; however, the GoFundMe page is still available to receive donations and will remain open until Dec. 5.
