Outreach Committee presents check
Members of the Law’s Chapel Methodist Church Outreach Committee and others from the church presented a check for $5000 to Mike Steward, Commander of the American Legion Post #258 on Veterans Day 2024. The church’s November monthly mission was to raise money for the Atlanta American Legion post’s ongoing project to erect war memorials for each war or confict including Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and more, and the first responders of 9-11. This money will go toward the Gulf War Memorial.
Present from Law’s Chapel Methodist Church were, from left to right.... Jan Gardner, Ellen O’Rear, Richard Daniels, Donna Bird, Brenda Sawyer, Hattie Roberts, Darcie Patrick, Mike Leuba, Jerry O’Rear presenting the check to Mike Steward, Barbara Duke, Jerry Sawyer and Dennis Roberts.
“We feel like this is a very deserving mission” said Hattie Roberts, Outreach Committee Chair. We agree with Mike Lee, she said, whose vision it was to start this project several years ago. It’s important for these monuments to be here and appreciated now and for generations to come. The white pedestal in the center has the words inscribed “Honor, Duty, Service and Fidelity”. These monuments will greatly enhance the concept of the Veterans Memorial Plaza in downtown Atlanta, TX honoring all veterans from all wars, “lest we forget”.
