Rabbs clip Eagles, 42-7

Atlanta was firing on all cylinders last Friday night as they beat Tatum 42-7.

First Quarter

Tatum received the ball first and went on a long, clock-eating drive only to fumble the ball away to the Rabbs at the 6:30 mark.

Atlanta quarterback Peyton Harrison hit Jayden Riley for six yards and DC Range for eight before Arkansas signee Markeylin Batton took the rock and carried it 54 yards for a touchdown.

The PAT was blocked but Atlanta was up 6-0 with 4:57 left in the first quarter. Tatum’s next drive was equally long but at one point an odd play happened. An Atlanta defender got his hands on the Eagle QB and tossed him backwards as the QB was throwing the ball.

The ball went backwards as a pass and the live ball was booted around a few times from the 44 all the way back to the 13; a loss of 31 yards.

The quarter ended with a Tatum punt.

Second Quarter

The Rabbs weren’t through scoring as Harrison hit Range for 48 yards before Batton scampered 11 yards for another score.

Harrison ran in the 2-point try and the Rabbs were up 14-0 with 11:07 showing on the clock.

After a busted fourth down for the Eagles, Harrison began the next drive with a 33yard pass to Riley. Jamarion Austin picked up 10 yards on the ground, Harrison gained 13 and the drive ended with Harrison connecting with Riley on a nice 14-yard TD.

The PAT was good and Atlanta increased its lead to 21-0 with 4:01 left to play in the first half.

Tatum scored at the 2:45 mark and after the successful PAT the Eagles were down 217. Atlanta scored quickly 20 seconds later as Harrison connected with Riley on a 73-yard TD.

The PAT was no good but Atlanta was up 27-7 with 2:25 on the clock. Atlanta’s defense was smothering all night and its special teams were electric. The Eagles’ next drive stalled and during the punt attempt a Rabbit player blocked the kick giving the Rabbits great field position at the Tatum 28.

Harrison only needed one play as he connected with Batton on a 28-yard TD with 32 seconds left in the half.

Riley hit CJ Whaley for the 2-point try and the rabbits were up 35-7.

Second Half

Atlanta received the ball in the second half first and immediately went to work.

Batton picked up 25 yards on the ground, Harrison hit Range for 21 yards and Braylin Rowe for 11. The drive ended, however, after a fumble.

Atlanta scored once more on a 3-yard scramble by Riley. The successful PAT set the score at 42-7 and that would be the final.

Atlanta finishes district play this Friday night at Gladewater. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
