SIDE BAR

Reba Byrd, writing in her column “Cass County Cousins” for the Citizens Journal on Sept. 18, 1980, gives the following information.

“The first Pleasant Hope Primitive Baptist Church was built below the Isaac D. Shine property. The second church was built where the church is located now — south of Huffines.

On March 13, 1889, the land for this one was sold for $1 by Jesse Beene and R. L, McClung to deacons John Herring and F. M. Alsobrooks for a new Pleasant Hope Primitive Baptist Church.

Then, she follows with a list of some 50 people who were members of the church from 1889 to 1900. This list of names, dates and reason for admission or dismissal can be found in the church’s file with the Cass County Genealogical Society.
