DeNatale Art
The owl artwork by Linden artist Terri DeNatale continues to be on exhibition at the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council’s 36th Annual Adult Juried Art Exhibition showing now through August 10 at the Texarkana Regional Arts Center.
The painting is titled “Night Watch” and is one of two which earned acceptance for DeNatale into the show.
In describing “Night Watch” as a work of art, DeNatale said it is a full sheet watercolor collage that is really two paintings in one.
“It started as a waterfall over some mountain cliffs falling into a peaceful lake,” De Natale said. “This was done from my imagination and was very therapeutic as I did the painting and every time I walked by it brought me to a beautiful place.”
After some time, the artist said she decided to make something different and turned the painting around 180 degrees to discover some eyes looking at her. They were owl eyes “We at the time had two horned owls that were on our property in Linden. Most mornings as I walked our dogs they would up and fly to some other tall trees just outside our path, not to be disturbed again. This is what I felt called to paint.”
Thus, the painting became of a nest of owlets with the parents keeping watch.
“In the making of this painting, I could feel the coolness of the evening and the guarded eyes of the parents keeping watch.”
Three local artists had six of their art works juried for exhibition. Earning acceptance into the show also were Rebecca Narramore of Linden for her decorated gourds and Patty Lovelace of Marshall for her two paintings of still life.
Juried art means that an art professional from outside the Texarkana area has looked at the works submitted and judged which are to be shown in the exhibition.
Open hours for TRAHC’s juried art exhibition are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
