Cass County Receives Star Program Award

CASS COUNTY, TEXAS – Texas Comptroller of public accounts has awarded a Transparency Star to Cass County for exemplary financial transparency efforts. The Transparency Star Program recognizes local government entities across Texas that attain a high standard of financial transparency online.

These actions provide citizens with clear, consistent information about public spending and government accountability in user-friendly formats. In keeping with our vision, Cass County has earned its first Transparency Star in the area of traditional finances.

The State Comptroller’s website now displays the Cass County award status. This was a long-term strategic goal achieved through a collaborative effort with all county offices and departments.

Cass County Auditor Jim Loomis was especially instrumental in achieving this significant accomplishment.

Cass County strives to be the example rural Texas County for innovation, transparency, and accessibility. In keeping with that vision, the Cass County Commissioners Court and County Auditor’s Office have been working to improve financial transparency specifically.

Cass County provides the public with complete financial disclosure concerning the budget, annual financial report, check register, tax rate and outstanding debt.

The Texas Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides to provide greater government transparency.

Attaining a Transparency Star is a major accomplishment that demonstrates the dedication, determination and drive of county government officials to provide to all residents a clear picture of the operations of their local government officials and how the taxes received are being allocated to serve the citizens of the county.
