Burks named L-K Interim Superintendent

On Monday afternoon, April 8, the Linden Kildare ISD Board of Trustees announced in a press release that the Linden Kildare ISD Board of Trustees was “pleased to announce that Mr. Rex Burks has been named Interim Superintendent of Schools.”

“Mr. Burks has been married to his wife Terri for 30 years. She is a retired educator and enjoys taking care of their grandchildren. They have two grown children – Zach Burks and Kayla Palmore and five grandchildren, all of whom are boys.

“Mr. Burks received his BSE from Southern Arkansas University in 1983. He received his master’s from Texas A&M Texarkana in 2002. He began his career as a Teacher/Coach in Magnolia, Arkansas 83-87.

He continued the same positions in his hometown of Warren, TX (19871994) and Queen City, TX “(1994-1997). Rex went to Simms ISD in July of 1997 to serve as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.

He added the responsibilities of Assistant Principal and then became High School Principal while still serving as the Athletic Director. In July of 2004, Mr. Burks became the Superintendent of Schools and served in that role for 18 years.

During that time, he worked diligently with the Board of Trustees, district staff, and the community to constantly improve the district. Mr. Burks retired from Simms Independent School District, after 25 years of service, in 2022.”

Burks replaces Keri Winters whose retirement was announced on March 24.
