State, District Mar. 5 Primary Results

Last week the Journal-Sun published the vote data for Cass County, which only had county-wide results, adding some confusion on who won. Races however were decided by state and district totals. This week we are publishing the state and district numbers and how they will affect Cass County residents.

The next voting cycle in April will determine runoffs. Currently, Cass County has one here. Incumbent Gary VanDeaver will face Chris Spencer. The winner will run unopposed in the November 5 election. Here is what you can expect for the Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – Primary Runoff Election: Last Day to Register to Vote: Monday, April 29, 2024 First Day of Early Voting: Monday, May 20, 2024 Last Day to Apply by Mail (Received, not Postmarked): Friday, May 17, 2024 Last Day of Early Voting Friday, May 24, 2024 Last Day to Receive Ballot by Mail Tu e s d a y, May 28, 2024 (Election Day) at 7:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is not postmarked, OR Wednesday, May 29, 2024 (next business day after Election Day) at 5:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is postmarked by 7:00 p.m. at the location of the election on the day of (unless overseas or military voter deadlines apply)4 After the runoff is totaled, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Uniform Election Date will take place. The Journal-Sun will have more information on that as the election nears.

FEDERAL OFFICE ELECTION RESULTS For the results of the March 5 primary results: As it stands currently, sitting President Joe Biden will face off against former President Donald Trump in the November 5 elections.

For the first time in recent history, several factors bring uncertainty to how the November 5 election will take shape including the strong independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that some say may affect the race in the same way Texarkana’s Ross Perot did.

For the U.S. Senate seat for Texas incumbent Ted Cruz will face Colin Allred in the November 5 election.

According to the Houston Chronicle, “U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, a former NFL player who flipped a Dallas congressional district in 2018, will take on U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in one of the most closely watched Senate races in the nation.” Republican Ted Cruz ran as a Tea Party candidate in the 2012 Republican primary, and “The Washington Post called his victory ‘the biggest upset of 2012 ... a true grassroots victory against very long odds.’” He has served as a Texas U.S. Senator since.

In 2021 Representative Louie Gohmert announced that he would run for the Republican nomination for Texas Attorney General instead of reelection in Texas’s 1st congressional district. On December 2, 2021, Moran announced his campaign to succeed Gohmert. He won the Republican nomination and defeated Democratic nominee Jrmar Jefferson.

Incumbent Republican Gary Van-Deaver will face Chris Spencer in a runoff after either candidate received 50% plus 1 in the March 5 Primary for the State Representative District 1 office. The Runoff will take place on Tuesday, May 28. The winner will be on the November 5 ballot with no Democratic Challenger.
