Linden´s Spring Fling

Linden’s Main Street Spring Fling last Saturday was something of a puzzle. One was surprised and impressed to see some 40 vendors or tables brightly colored and filled with numerous articles for sale or inspection.

Enthusiasm was evident. Everyone was ready to talk. It seemed this “getting-together” was a good idea. It was just the sun didn’t stay out long enough to warm the shoulders. It was not yet spring.

But the “fling” of the festival for Main Street was fulfilled.

The purpose of Main Street is to be a volunteer- led organization dedicated to reviving Linden’s historic downtown. Everyone who attended Spring Fling was a volunteer.

Every volunteer was interested in Linden. No one came to meet famous people, hear music or go to a carnival. Lindenites were there.

At the same hour and time, Atlanta’s downtown was filled with its successful “mini-market” event in which local artisans show their work for about five hours on this day Saturday.

Next week’s Citizens Journal-Sun will show nine photographs from Atlanta’s gathering and introduce you to nine local craft people who were present for their “fling” on this day in Atlanta as well. Both events emphasize locals. And both are fun and rewarding to attend.
