Lawrence Martin

A tribute to Paw-Paw

Lawrence Martin, known to some as L.A. Martin, is the twin of the late L.K. Martin, and affectionately referred to as “Shorty” by some, but to me, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, he was Paw-Paw.

He has lived through five generations, survived Vietnam and cancer, and at 93 years old, he is double my present age. He still possesses 20/25 vision and the strength of a man 10 years younger.

I admire my grandpa, he has always been a hard worker, a United States Army Veteran, a skilled carpenter, and one of the best gardeners.

Most people will know him from his years of service at St. Paul CME Church, Endsley Hosale, and Pitt’s Service Station.

His greatest attribute is providing for his wife (the late Frances Martin) and his lifelong commitment to his children and grandchildren.

I just wanted to, as they say, “give flowers while the fragrance can still be smelled”. I knew there was no better place than the Citizens Journal to honor him, as he has been purchasing this paper since I was a girl and still does to this day. I love you, and I thank you for everything, Paw-Paw.

Lovingly submitted, Calena Hubbard
