McLeod tangled with Linden-Kildare on Jan. 23, in district action.
Longhorns
The varsity boys’ team steamrolled the Tigers 7110. The ’Horns (29-2) had a dominant 37-4 lead at halftime and increased its lead to 61 with a 34-6 second half run.
Kannon Dempsey recorded another double-double with a 21-point, 13 rebound effort.
Jaxon Smith added 12 points, Grayson Owens 10 and Kason Cook eight.
Lady Longhorns
McLeod’s varsity girls’ team edged L-K 47-45 with Kenslee Cross leading the way with a double-double.
Cross had 28 points with 15 rebounds, Jacqulyn Shepherd added 10 points and Rylee Parker put up four points.
For L-K, J. Birmingham poured in 22 points, Magee Winters had nine and Alexis posted seven.
On Jan. 29, McLeod hosted Hawkins in another district battle.
Longhorns
Coming into the game the Hawks were the only team to beat the Longhorns this season aside from a tourney loss to Tom Bean.
McLeod (29-3) had a solid 14-8 lead after one quarter of play but a 13-8 run by Hawkins cut the lead to 22-21 at the break.
The Longhorns had Hawkins on the ropes after a 12-4 third quarter run to take a 34-25 lead, but a 17-2 run by the Hawks in the final frame gave Hawkins the win.
Kannon Dempsey led McLeod in scoring with 11 points, Jaxon Smith posted nine with 11 boards and Grayson Owens had nine points.
The JV longhorns topped Hawkins 28-21 with Bascombe putting up eight points.
Lady Longhorns
McLeod lost a tough game to the Lady Hawks 4539. The game was hard fought and close except for a 12-4 run by Hawkins in the second stanza.
Kenslee Cross posted a double-double with 19 points with 10 boards, Lila McKnight had five points, Madison Blair had five, Gracey Vick four and Jacqulyn Shepherd four.
The JV Lady Longhorns also fell to Hawkins by a score of 21=15 with Kayleigh Whatley scoring six points.
