Rotary Reflections 2024

There are times when we just need to be quiet! I’ve recently discovered YouTube and ear plugs. I will admit that I’m not always “tuned into” what I’m working on. You know we women like to multi-task, but is efficiency what it’s cranked up to be? Let’s forget being the SUPER woman! Recently my friends and I had a FUN morning picking up trash. And I was quiet so I could hear cars approaching, as is recommended. Let me tell you that despite the warning signs of “work ahead” some of those vehicles are really speeding by! But I digress… The trash that accumulate in front of Atlanta High is amazing. Doesn’t anyone know to bag it and take it home? There are often deer feed bags that were “carefully” put in the back of the truck that just happened to blow out on the merry way down the road.

I try to figure out why Atlanta High has more trash than Queen City High and suspect it has to do with fast food restaurants “down the road.” And the trash is NOT the fault of those restaurants but their patrons. It frustrates me when I pick up Chick-Fil-A trash that I know traveled a few miles to land in the ditch by me. What’s the thinking? But, of course, we know that whoever reads this knows better!

What’s it worth to be quiet while I’m picking up trash? FOCUS! As I drove down the highway to put up those aforementioned signs and then get to work, I glanced at the trash along the road, but didn’t see all the value waiting to be found. As the picture shows, not all trash is trash. My husband wasn’t thrilled (supposedly) when I gave him a dollar out of my “find”, but we did enjoy a cup of coffee thanks to someone’s “trash”! Yes, it pays to pick up trash.

Come join us on trash days or at any of our meetings. We meet at Luigi’s every 1st and 3rd Thursday at 6 pm. And we will leave the light on for you and put the welcome mat out.

And being quiet while I’m working? Let’s just say I’d rip out a lot less if I was FOCUSED! (I’m a quilter.)

And while I think of it, go to the Atlanta Public Library and purchase a couple quarts of taco soup for the Friends annual fund-raiser ($15/qt). I know you see those purple signs!
