McLeod at Big Sandy

McLeod’s varsity boys’ basketball team ran its season record to 26-2 after a scrappy 68-60 win over Big Sandy on Jan. 9.

Big Sandy had a slight 12-11 lead after the first quarter but a 21-11 run by the ’Horns in the second frame put McLeod up 32-23 at halftime.

The Longhorns poured it on in the third quarter with a push of 18-10 which set the score at 50-33 going into the final stanza.

Big Sandy clawed its way for a comeback with a 2718 run, but the Longhorns outlasted the Wildcats to pick up a big district win.

Colton Spence posted 21 points with seven boards and six blocks, Kannon Dempsey added a double- double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Jaxon Smith recorded 15 points with seven boards and Grayson Owens put up 13 points with seven rebounds.

The JV squad won big by a score of 49-17. Nick Spears hit four treys in the game and finished with 12 points.

The Lady Longhorns toppled Big Sandy 46-28 and picked up a big district win the process.

McLeod had a commanding 21-9 at the break and poured on a 25-19 run in the second half.

Kenslee Cross had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, Lila McKnight added 11 points and Jacqulyn Shepherd had eight points.

McLeod vs. Union Grove

McLeod’s boys’ basketball team beat Union Grove 62-33 on Jan.12 and improved its record to 27-2.

The Longhorns had a solid 31-18 lead at the break and went on a 31-15 run in the second half to keep Union Grove from making any sort of comeback attempt.

Jaxon Smith posted 15 points with eight rebounds, Kannon Dempsey added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Grayson Owens had 14 points with seven boards and Colton Spence poured in eight points and grabbed eight boards.

The JV team squeezed out a 27-22 win over Union Grove with Chase Cook posting nine points.

The Lady Longhorns had a 17-16 advantage going into the fourth frame but Union Grove had a17-8 run to win the game 33-25. Kenslee Cross had 10 points, Rylee Parker five and Madison Blair four.
