Texas History Minute

Cass County business owner Chris Spencer announced that he would seek the Republican nomination for the Texas House District 1 Seat. Since then, Spencer received a huge endorsement from Sid Miller the Commissioner of Agriculture of Texas.

On a social media post, Miller said, “Chris Spencer will make us proud by defeating fake conservative and arch RINO @GaryVanDeaver. I know Chris well, as a brother in Christ and a passionate conservative warrior. It is my honor to make Chris one of my first endorsements of the 2024 primary season.”

Last week Spencer also received the endorsement of Texas Republican Governor, Greg Abbott. “Chris will ensure every Texas parent has the right to choose the best education for their children, support the defense of our southern border, and fight for conservative principles.”

Chris Spencer, the Chairman of the Sulphur River Basin Authority, community leader and a Northeast Texas business owner, which includes Linden grocery store Crumps, has announced his campaign for the Texas House of Representatives in House District 1. Spencer, a conservative Republican, will seek his party’s nomination in the March 5th Republican Primary.

Spencer officially filed the necessary documents to be a candidate with Republican Party of Texas officials on Friday.

Spencer, who authors a bi-weekly newspaper column entitled “Straight Talk with Chris Spencer,” said he’s been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from folks in Northeast Texas, as well as from conservative leaders across the Lone Star State, who have encouraged him to enter the race.

Spencer will be one of several that has declared that they will be running against incumbent Gary VanDeaver.
