I Choose Thanksgiving
Psalms 138 is a beautiful passage concerning praise.
The psalmist David is very adamant concerning what he desires to do and what he will do. He says in verse 1, “I will praise thee with my whole heart…” he is boldly declaring that he will hold nothing back in his worship and his praise.
This was a choice that David made, with the various circumstances that had surrounded him; he could have chosen to live in fear, worry, or even doubt.
Yet we discover David did not make this heart’s choice because everything in his life was lovely, carefree, and void of troubles.
On the contrary David said in verse 7, “though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies and thy right hand shall save me.”
David spoke of troubles; he spoke of the wrath of enemies. But in the midst of so much against him, David’s faith was anchored in the fact that even in trouble, God would deliver.
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, we must remember that this joyous occasion is about much more than a day of feasting.
It is even more than just a day of being with loved ones. Thanksgiving is a choice we make and should be a choice made daily.
The fact is God loves you, He sent his Son Jesus to die a vicarious death on behalf of this world, and that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord can be saved.
That is something to be thankful about. But we also know that God is always mindful of us, He knows our struggles, our sorrows, and all of our troubles.
May we also have a heart that declares our devotion love and commitment of praise even in the midst of troubles.
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
