Fallon changes mind, will run again for US Congress
In just 24 hours Pat Fallon went from announcing he would be leaving the US Congress to run for his previous Texas Senate post to deciding he would stay and seek reelection for the congressional seat. Fallon’s Texas’ 4th Congressional District covered Cass County before a controversial redistricting effort put Cass County out of Fallon’s District. While in Cass current Judge Travis Ransom ran against Fallon for that post.
According to the Texas Tribune, November 13, “Fallon filed Monday for Senate District 30, a seat that is newly open after its incumbent, Sen. Drew Springer, R-Muenster, announced Tuesday he would not seek reelection. That means Fallon will leave Congress at the end of his current term.
On the same day, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick released the following statement: “News of Pat Fallon’s return to the Texas Senate is tremendous! The voters of District 30 couldn’t ask for a better candidate. Pat was a solid member when he served in the Senate, and now he returns from Washington with a wealth of new experience. I am proud to endorse Pat Fallon and look forward to joining him on the campaign trail. I appreciate Senator Drew Springer’s service and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
“At the end of the day, the decision came down to, If we lose Texas, we lose the nation,” Fallon said in a brief interview. “It’s just terribly important to ensure that Texas has written a great success story and I want to keep moving that forward.” – Texas Tribune The next day Fallon reversed course Instead. “Fallon’s staff confirmed he will seek reelection to Texas’ 4th Congressional District, which extends from the Dallas suburbs to the Red River in the border with Oklahoma.”
At the time this article was written it was not clear what changed Fallon’s mind, but said more information would be coming soon.
The Tribune did report that “Fallon began a tele-town hall Tuesday evening by assuring his constituents he would be staying in Congress. He said his family, especially his oldest son, was not on board with his decision to leave.
“I really am truly looking for my best and highest use for the conservative cause because I do think in my hearts of hearts that’s the best, best, path forward for our country,” Fallon said.
“Fallon on Monday announced he would retire from Congress and run for Senate District 30, which is being vacated by Sen. Drew Springer, R-Muenster. Fallon held the seat for two years before being elected to Congress in 2020.”
Fallon took office after winning a special election after in May of 2020, sitting congressman John Ratcliffe resigned his seat ahead of his swearing-in to become the 6th Director of National Intelligence.
