Lake o’The Pines Bridge being replaced
Another bridge is going up in this area as being built by the Texas Department of Transportation, Atlanta District.
This bridge is crossing Lake o’ the Pines on State Highway 155 near its intersection with State Highway 259. The bridge and drive is a popular one for Cass County residents on their way to Tyler, Longview or Gilmer.
Lake o’ The Pines is a reservoir on Big Cypress Bayou chiefly in Marion County approximately 8.5 miles west of Jefferson.
The 1.4-mile project will include a new bridge and new approaches. Construction will take place from Glendia Drive to 1.5 miles west of Farm to Market 729.
“The bridge will feature four 12-foot travel lanes, a median and 10-foot shoulders,” said Atlanta District Director of Transportation Planning and Development Katie Martin.
Motorists will continue to travel on the existing bridge while the new bridge is under construction.
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd, of Longview, was awarded the contract with a bid of $53,799,919, according to Heather. Work is expected to take 57 months to complete and to be finished in 2028.
