Atlanta Middle School Rabbs battle New Boston

7A Atlanta 22, New Boston 20

This game was a hard-fought battle from the first whistle. The Rabbs 7th grade A team grinded out a win to improve to 1-0 and the season.

First Quarter

Quarterback Brayde Thompson had two big runs on the opening drive to put the Rabbs deep into Lion territory. A couple plays later Thompson found Gaven Bumphus on a slant route for the touchdown. Thompson found fullback Aiden Shields for the 2-point catch which put Atlanta up 8-0. New Boston answered quickly with a nice drive to make it 8-6.

Bumphus returned the ensuing kickoff into Lion territory to set the Rabbs up. On the first play, Thompson found Kelvin Roberson in double coverage who snagged the ball, broke a tackle and took it in for the score from 46 yards out. Thompson scrambled for the 2-point conversion to make it 16-6.

Second Quarter

New Boston drove the ball the length of the field to make it 16-14. The Rabbs put together a nice drive but it stalled to end the half.

Third Quarter

Atlanta’s defense makes a big stop, after some key tackles from Henry Puckett, Gabriel Garcia, and Ethyn Richardson. Thompson finds shields on the bootleg again, he romps all the way inside the New Boston 10-yard line. Two plays later Thompson scores again from two yards out. The 2-point try was no good, bringing the score to 22-12.

Fourth Quarter

New Boston put together another nice drive and closed the gap to 22-20. The Rabbs picked up a big first down on a nice run from Thompson. the Rabbs took a knee on the next three plays to end the game 22-20.

7B Atlanta 14, New Boston 8

Jacobe Sertuche throws a nice bootleg pass in the flats to Braylon cook for a 17-yard gain, the next play Jordan Platt runs it in from 15 yards out. Sertuche runs in the 2 points. 8-0. New Boston answered on their next drive, but the Rabbs would score again on a nice 55-yard scamper for logan Johnson to make it 14-8.

8A Atlanta 14, New Boston 28

In a game that was physical, back-and-forth, late penalties and mistakes cost the Rabbs.

First Quarter

Both teams stalled out on their first drive and were forced to punt.

Second Quarter

New Boston put together a nice drive on the ground and punched it in. They added the point after to make it 7-0. Atlanta would put together a nice drive of their own but faced a fourth and long situation. Noah Sheffield fires a nice ball over the top, and Dre Simmons catches in over two defenders for the touchdown. Jamario Crawford added a 2-point run to make it 8-7. New Boston answered to make it 13-7.

Third Quarter

The Rabbs received the opening kickoff and started with good field position. On the second play of the drive, Simmons burst through the line, and took it all the way for a touchdown form 68 yards out. 14-13. Simmons intercepts a New Boston pass on the next drive. On fourth down, Simmons sprints around the edge for a huge run, but it was negated by a penalty. the Rabbs turn the ball over to New Boston.

Fourth Quarter

New Boston drives down to take the lead, and the Rabbs fumble on their next position giving the Lions a very short field. 28-14 final.

The Rabbits travel to Brook Hill on Thursday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
