State Rep VanDeaver announces bid for sixth term
NEW BOSTON, TX – State Representative Gary VanDeaver has announced his intention to run for a sixth term representing Texas House District 1, which includes Bowie, Lamar, Red River, Morris, and Cass Counties.
During his most recent term in the Texas House, VanDeaver served as the Chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee, Article III, where he led the effort to write the budget for all public and higher education in Texas, as well as the budgets for several state agencies. He also served on the Committee on Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services. VanDeaver has continued to work to increase funding for public schools, improve school accountability, and protect the livelihood of rural Texans.
Representative VanDeaver proudly represented northeast Texas in the 88th legislative session, which wrapped in May and has proven to be one of historic implications. VanDeaver coauthored legislation to protect children from sexual mutilation, sexually explicit public performances, and inappropriate materials in libraries. Other legislation includes unprecedented efforts to protect the southern border, protect private property rights, and provide Texans with the largest tax cut in history.
VanDeaver resides in New Boston with his wife of 40 years, Pam. They have two grown daughters and three grandchildren.
“Serving the people of northeast Texas has been one of the greatest honors of my life. As the state becomes more urbanized, it is increasingly important to have strong voices in the Texas House for rural Texas,” VanDeaver stated.
“We still have a lot of work to do and I look forward to building on the past accomplishments and relationships to ensure the future of Texas, and particularly northeast Texas is bright.”
