Preview Week 1
Football is just a few days away and that line, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is playing through my head as it always does the week leading up to the first game.
Our coverage football teams have exciting matchups in week one, and all of them start out with away games this season.
All of the games begin this Friday night, Aug. 25.
Atlanta vs. Elysian Fields
Last season the Rabbits played Elysian Fields for the first time ever.
Atlanta notched it’s first win under Head Coach Tyler Morton as the Rabbs defeated the Yellowjackets 27-2.
The Yellowjackets missed out on the playoffs last season in 3A-D2 and aren’t returning much this season while the Rabbs made the playoffs and return 13 starters across the board. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Linden-Kildare vs. Ore City
Linden-Kildare and Ore City have met 11 times prior to this meeting.
L-K holds a 6-5 advantage in the series. Ore City has won the last three matchups including a 13-7 victory last year.
The Tigers made the playoffs last season. Ore City dropped from 3A-D2 to 2A-D1 two years ago and has only won one district game and three games overall during that span. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Queen City vs. Rivercrest
Queen City and Rivercrest have played each other 11 times since 1966.
The Rebels have a 5-4-1 advantage in the series, but QC closed the gap last year with a 38-28 win.
QC has arguably the toughest district to play in year-in-and-year-out.
The Bulldogs let a couple of games slip away from them last season, but with experienced players returning the Bulldogs hope to stay healthy and surprise teams this year.
Rivercrest made the playoffs last year after finishing district play with a 3-3 record. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
