Linden Garden Club

National Garden Week takes place annually in the first full week of June. This year it will be held from June 4 to 10. It is spearheaded by National Garden Clubs, a nonprofit organization headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri that promotes the love of gardening, floral design, and civic and environmental responsibility.

The Linden Garden Club wants to bring more awareness to the importance of gardening and preserving gardening traditions and practices by passing on knowledge to new gardeners.

Linden Garden Club was federated in 1935. Our first President was Mrs. Pearl Allen.

Our club is blessed to have purchased the former Methodist Men’s Bible Class building in 1964. Our meetings are held August through May on the third Wednesday of the month at noon. Linden Garden Club is a member of: Texarkana, Texas Council of Garden Clubs, District III Northern Zone, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc., and National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Our projects this past year included sponsoring Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster contests with the TX Forest Service, Linden at Linden-Kildare Elementary.

They had several winners at District III and Southern Region. Members, Laura Penny and Gail Small, attended the awards ceremony to pass out certificates and cash prizes to the students.

They also donated a Fairy Garden to a Pre-K4 classroom won by a member at a garden club activity. They partnered with the Linden City Park, L-K FFA students for a Texas Arbor Day ceremony of planting two trees with an informative program on Arbor Day.

Members also participated in community events Trick or Treat, served free hot cocoa and cookies at the Christmas program, clean and trimmed rose bushes at the Linden Police Dept.

We sponsor an annual flower show which has floral arrangements and horticultural exhibits which are scored by certified Texas Garden Club judges.

We had lots of opportunities to participate in area garden club activities in Texarkana and Jefferson. Our members made lifelong friends and lots of memories. We were also recognized for our many accomplishments this past year.

Linden Garden Club appreciates all the support received from our community for the past 88 years. We will kick off our new year on August 16.

As always, members will continue to have a love for flowers, enjoy their friends, and build a new flower bed in that empty space.

Hope you will join us!
