Thomas Mott and Elizabeth Brooks
Thomas Mott “born June 14, 1827 in Wilkinson County, Georgia. The son of Zachariah Mott born about 1794, died 1856 in Macon County, Georgia, married (1) a Hudson, (2) Matilda Castleberry. It is not certain which of the wives was the mother of Thomas, it is believed Matilda was his mother. Thomas died November 11, 1883. He married September 8, 1859, Cass County, Tex. to Lucy Elizabeth “Liz” Brooks, daughter of William B. and Ally Underwood Brooks. It is said that Tom and Liz were sweethearts in Georgia. When she moved to Texas with her family, he was heartbroken. After the death of his mother, he came to Texas, and they were married. The are both buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cass County.
Their children were: 1. John William Mott (1860-1927) 2. Mary Alice Mott (1862-1915) married John R. Jolly (1861-1919), both are buried Mt. Zion, Cass County.
3. Elizabeth Matilda Mott (1864-1876) k. Thomas Jasper Mott (1866-1907) 5. Sarah Josephine “Sally” Mott (1869-1948) married Thomas Edward Shelton.
6. Milton George Mott (1837-1966) married Ida May Belote, both are buried at Old Foundry Cemetery, Lodi, TX children were: Elizabeth married James Rockwell, Mary Margaret married Harold Wood and June Mott.
7. Zachariah Henry Mott (1877-1950) unmarried. Thomas Mott and family were listed as family #440 on the 1880 Cass County Census, precinct #4, age 53 and a farmer.
JOHN WILLIAM MOTT John William Mott, son of Thomas Mott, born June 18, 1860 Cass County, died July 12, 1927, buried Mt. Zion Cemetery, Cass County. Married December 30, 1860, Cass County to Sarah Margaret “Mag” Bryant, daughter of George and Sarah A. (Graham) Bryant. Sarah was born November 21, 1861, NC died May 7, 1933, also buried Mt. Zion. Their children were: 1. Charles Thomas “Charlie” Mott (1882-1963), buried at Mt. Zion. He married Vallie D. Hodge. Their children were Mary Glide, married an Arwood, Bob Mott, Charlie Dee, married ___ Becker, Joy married Abar.
2. George H. Mott (l883-1954) buried Mt. Zion, married Effie Faulkner, daughter of Tom and Ludie (Duncan) Faulkner. Children: John T. married Maxie Morrison, Clifton L. married Jewel Walker, George Homer married Sammy Haggard.
3. Bob D. Mott (1887-1916), killed in World War I, “buried at Mt. Zion, married Hattie Sellars. No children. k. Bessie Bott (1889- ), married Lugo Dreason.
5. Will Mott (1891-1940), buried Mt. Zion, married Dee Sellars. There were no children.
6. Joe Mott (1892- ? ) He was not married. THOMAS JASPER MOTT Thomas Jasper Mott, son of Thomas Mott, born November 8, 1866, Cass Co., Texas. Died October 12, 1907, buried at New Prospect Cemetery in Marion Co. He married (1) Lucy Cox,(1867 1899), daughter of Kennon Breazeale Cox, (2) Lula Jane League (1876 1954) daughter of James F. League. Children by Lucy Cox were: 1. Minnie Mott (1889 1907) unmarried 2. Claude Cannon Mott (1891-1966) married Roxie Choat. He is buried Snyder, OK. She lives at Manitou Springs, OK, age 85- Children: Troy married Fern Austin, Edith, married Harold Miller, Calvin, and Jewel dene.
3. Hattie Mott (1893-1913) married Manley Garner. She died in Portales, NM, buried Mt. Zion, Cass County, no children.
4. Thomas Clyde Mott (1896-1963) married Gertrude Dilli. He is buried in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, TX. She lives in Amarillo. Children: Margaret married Hamp Russell, Vera married J.L. McCaleb, Vivian married Arthur Koenig, Thomas Clyde, Jr. deceased married LaVerne Vandiver, James David married Louise Veasey, Lena Mae married Lewis Houseman, Robert “Bob” married LaVonna “Pat” Hart, Martha Lou married Cecil Cooper, Nancy Helen, Richard Wilborn.
Children by Lula Jane League: 5. Una Belle Mott (1901- ) married Pleasant E. Hines, had one daughter Helen Thon.
6. James Haywood Mott (1903-1966) married Jewel Berry. He is buried at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, TX. Children: James Heal, Julia Ann married Bob Garrett, Mary Beth married Porter Crawford, T. J., and Johnny. 7. Leola Montiel Mott (1906- }, married (1) George W. Smith, (2) Otho Nichols, “both deceased. She lives in Amarillo, Children: Betty Grace Smith married Charles Edward Willie, Dorothy Louise Smith married (1) Elmer H. Northern, (2) Doyle Brown. After Thomas Mott’s death, Lula Jane married August F. Wille. They lived in Springer, NM for several years, “before moving to Amarillo, where they are “both “buried.
