Lady Bulldogs clinch Regional Quarterfinal crown
Queen City’s softball team made history last week as the Lady Bulldogs won the Regional Quarterfinal championship for the first time in school history.
The Lady Bulldogs (30-7-1) pieced together a solid sweep of Troup with shutout wins of 5-0 and 3-0.
Game One
Queen City scored two runs in the fourth frame and three runs in the fifth to take game one of the series 5-0.
In that fourth inning, Mallori Stringer was hit by a pitch, Kelsey Nash walked, and Jacey Cauthorn made it to first base on a dropped third strike.
Erica Lavoie smashed a double and plated two runs.
In the fifth frame, Serenity Oden singled and later scored on a double off the bat of Stringer. Laurel Moore walked before Kelsey Nash reached base on an error which plated two runs to set the score at 5-0.
Trinity Oden pitched a gem from the circle as she pitched a 3-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts.
Brenna Turbeville and Serenity hit singles, Stringer hit an RBI double, and Lavoie hit a 2-RBI double.
Game Two
This game was tight throughout and wasn’t decided until late. QC scored the only run of the game in the first inning and didn’t score again until the sixth and seventh frames to wrap up the contest 3-0 and series overall.
The first run came via a double by Mallori Stringer which plated Trinity Oden who had walked the at bat previously.
The next run came via a solo bomb off the bat of Trinity Oden and the final run came via a triple off the bat of Brenna Turbeville which plated Jacey Cauthorn who had walked prior.
Trinity pitched a 2-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and hit a homer and a double from the plate with one RBI.
Turbeville added an RBI triple, Stringer hit two doubles and had a ribbie, Lauren Carrell posted a double and Cauthorn added a single.
QC has yet to lose a contest in the playoffs and currently has a 10-game winning streak. The Lady Bulldogs have outscored its opponents in the playoffs 51-3 and on its 10-game win streak 94-10.
The Lady Bulldogs will face state-ranked Whitesboro (32-4) in a 3-game series.
The Regional Semi-finals begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, game two will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19 and game three, if necessary, will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. All contests will be at Paris High School.
