Stroman named Principal of the Year

Bloomburg Elementary Principal Silvia Stroman was recently named Principal of the Year by the Texas Rural Education Association (TREA).

She was nominated for this prestigious award by Bloomburg Superintendent Brian Stroman and was one of just five finalists across the entire state.

What made the nomination so meaningful and special is that everything Principal Stroman has brought to the elementary during her tenure was presented in the nomination process.

During her 8-year tenure as elementary principal Stroman has integrated a Dyslexia program, a Response to Intervention (RTI) program, the house system Ron Clark devised for students and had a new playground built for the elementary kids.

Although her initial response was pure excitement it came at a less-than exciting time.

“We just happened to be in the hospital with my husband needing an appendectomy and it was 3 a.m. when I found out,” Stroman said. “Brian woke me to tell me that I had won. As exhausted as I was, I did feel excitement given the circumstances.”

When asked how gratifying it was to be recognized for all her efforts over the past eight years, Stroman replied, “It’s nice to be recognized but honestly, I had a great staff that helped accomplish these things along the way and I want them to be proud and to be happy for me. Then I’ll know it’s a well-deserved achievement.”

When asked if there was anything else in the works, she’s like to bring to BISD she remarked, “All the ideas I’ve had are in place, everything has fallen into place, and we just want to build on these things and make them better for the staff, students and parents.”

The school said it best with its Facebook post: It is with great pleasure and pride that we extend our warmest congratulations to our very own Silvia Stroman on being named Principal of the Year by the Texas Rural Education Association.
