Blake back home and off ventilator

There has been good news regarding the health of Blake Sampson. After fighting for his life for the past two years Blake has been able to come home again and this time off the ventilator; so far without issues. He even went to church.

In posts on social media on the Prayers for Blake page, Venetia Kay Simpson gave several good reports starting on April 30.

“Blake did it y’all!!!! He went 12 hours today without the ventilator and had no issues.️ God we see you loud and clear. Keep those prayers coming.”

May 3: “So good to be home. He’s been up since 6:30 am ... lol... so waited a few minutes to make sure he was good and awake and turned the vent off. He does have to have a 1/2 liter of oxygen since he’s just getting over being sick. But doing good so far!”

May 7: “Our first outing without the ventilator We went to church this morning and Blake did really well. No oxygen!”

In an earlier report on January 18, the Journal-Sun reporter noted that jury selection was scheduled to begin May 15 in the case of a 31-year-old Atlanta native charged with first-degree felony of injury to a child with intent to cause severe bodily injury, Blake was able to make the journey home for a permanent family residence, just in time for the holidays.

The Journal-Sun has reached out to the DA in the case for an update. As of May 8, we have not been able to reach her. At the time of the January article Charles Brooks Jr, was held in North Tower at Dallas County jail where he awaits trial for his alleged crimes. Brooks is charged with beating his former stepson — two-year-old Blake Sampson — within an inch of his life at a Dallas duplex in April 2021.

“They will likely begin the actual process on May 16th,” it was said by Carmen Sampson, Blake’s step-grandmother of trial proceedings at the time.

This isn’t the first court date that’s been set in this matter, Sampson said.

“There have been countless court dates for Charles or his lawyer for plea bargains, extensions, etcetera,” Sampson said.

Both Carmen and Blake’s grandfather, Gary Sampson previously detailed Blake’s harrowing injuries, which included being treated for a severe brain bleed with swelling, bruising and bite marks.

Carmen told Crimeopedia Google Podcast last year that the first year was beyond tough, with Blake in and out of the hospital.

“It has been an absolute emotional rollercoaster,” she said.” We will get some good news and we’ll kind of be on a high for a little bit and then we will get some not so good news and we have to try to lift one another up because I mean, he’s our world.

“Our main focus is him and how he is doing”
