HUFFINES/MCLEOD FUNDRAISER Saturday, May 6 8:00 am-5:00 pm
Huffines and McLeod communities unite to raise funds to support the Huffines Community Center and our local fire department (CCESD#1) Events include live music, various vendors on location (spaces still available for $25; contact Mary Manley @ 903-277-3650), food & drinks, cake walk and a live auction for goods that have been donated. Items for auction will be available to view prior to the actual bidding. Some premium baked goods and gift cards will be auctioned as well. (Homemade Italian Cream Cake, Strawberry pies, etc.) So come support our efforts to better our communities by coming and participating in the event.
Cass County Genealogical Society Membership Meeting The Cass County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, May 11th, 2023 for a membership meeting. At our May 11th meeting C.C.G.S. Member, Debbie Jones is doing her program titled “Surprises and Scandals on the Family Tree”. You don’t want to miss this interesting and informative program.
The meeting will start at 12:00 noon, lunch will be served at 12:30 pm and the program will start at 1:00 pm, and we hope that as many of you as possible will join us for this program, and please feel free to bring a friend. The meeting will be held in our usual location, The Fellowship Hall of The Methodist Church of Queen City at Marietta and Fourth Streets, Queen City, Texas.
As always we will serve a light meal and beverages and the public is always invited.

JE Manning American Legion Post 258 raising funds for War Memorial new addition The JE Manning American Legion Post 258 is currently selling tickets for a Henry Big Boy .30-30 Lever Action Rifle to help raise funds for the new addition of the War Memorial in downtown Atlanta. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Legionnaire.

The drawing will take place on October 15, 2023. The winner will be able to have the rifle engraved at no additional cost and does not need to be present to win.
The Mary Daugherty Senior Citizens Center is open all week for anyone who would like to join the group there for bingo, exercise, crocheting and a meal. Monday, Wednesday and Friday exercise is from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by bingo from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and eating from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
On Tuesday crocheting is from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by bingo from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and eating from 10:45 to 11:30. On Thursday bingo is from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by eating from 10:45 to 11:30.
Every third Friday of the month they have “Birthday Friday” where they celebrate birthdays and have cake for those present. That normally begins at 10:45.
FREE CURBSIDE BULK WASTE COLLECTION Atlanta City Manager Danica Porter said that free bulk waste curbside collection is scheduled in
Atlanta from May 15th through May 19th. “Bulk waste will be collected at the same time as our customer’s polycart is serviced, so make sure everything’s out curbside before the trash trucks arrive”, Porter said. She added, “We have a limit of 3 cubic yards of bulk waste this year, which is about the size of a pickup bed.”
MONDAY MAY 15th THROUGH FRIDAY MAY 19th “This is a great opportunity to make the community more attractive, get rid of unwanted junk and save money and time by avoiding trips to the landfill”, Porter said.
Acceptable items include household furniture, outdoor furniture, clothing, green waste (properly bagged), sticks and limbs that are bundled not exceeding four feet.
There are some limitations. Pick-up will be limited to 3 cubic yards, which is about the size of a pick-up bed. The City will not accept white good or appliances, electronic waste, TV’s, tires, paints, oil, batteries or other hazardous waste. The City also reserves the right the refuse any item deemed to pose a health or safety risk. Unacceptable items will be left at the curb.
