Economic Development Seminar Overview

Several elected and appointed officials from the cities of Linden, Atlanta, Hughes Springs, Queen City and New Boston attended an economic development seminar at the County Seat Café in Linden recently (Hosted by the Linden EDC).

Jeff Moore, a partner with the Dallas area law firm of Brown & Hofmeister, L.L.P. presented at the seminar. Mr. Moore represents Texas municipalities and Type A and Type B economic development corporations. Mr. Moore serves as City Attorney for five (5) Texas cities and serves as legal counsel for over 40 economic development corporations.

Mr. Moore served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Texas Attorney General’s office from August 1999 to July 2003. As an assistant attorney general he provided legal assistance to municipalities regarding municipal law issues, including the Type A and Type B sales tax issues. Since its inception in 2001, Mr. Moore has assisted the Texas Economic Development Council, State Comptroller’s office and the Office of the Attorney General with the Type A and Type B economic development sales tax training seminars mandated by the Texas Legislature.

Mr. Moore presented information in regards to Type A/B sales taxes, Chapter 380 economic development agreements, tax abatements and TIF/ TIRZ. Megan Kirkland, the City of Linden Interim Assistant City Administrator/City Secretary stated, “This seminar empowers cities to network and grow knowledge wise.

“This is the epitome of our consortium working together to expand the regional economic base. Having such a knowledgeable individual such as Mr. Moore come to Linden to educate all of us to the economic development tools of our state is exciting.”
