Lady Bulldogs win back-to-back district titles

Queen City’s softball team has turned in another memorable season.

The Lady Bulldogs caged the Lady Lions of New Boston 13-1 on Apr. 18, and then played Hooks on Apr. 21, for the district championship.

Hooks was the only team to beat QC this season in district play and QC was the only team to beat Hooks.

In beating Hooks, a second time, the Lady Bulldogs not only won a title but stopped the Lady Hornets’ 10-game winning streak which began the game after QC had beaten them 4-1 on Mar. 14.

In the championship tilt, QC was down 5-1 going into the fifth inning where they blew the gates off the stadium with a 10-run frame and won the contest 11-5.

vs. New Boston

The Lady Bulldogs broke open a 1-1 tie in the third frame with 12 runs over the next three innings.

Trinity Oden, who surpassed the 500th strikeout mark a few games back, gave up just two hits and one run with nine strikeouts. She also had six RBIs, clubbed a double, hit a single and smashed her 13th homerun of the season from the plate.

Serenity Oden had three hits with a homerun and two ribbies, Brenna Turbeville added a single, Mallori Stringer had two base hits with an RBI, Kelsey Nash had a single with two ribeyes and both Lauren Carrell and Jacey Cauthorn hit singles.

vs. Hooks

The past two seasons have been a dogfight between these two squads with QC edging out the Lady Hornets for district titles.

In the title game, the Lady Hornets scored the game’s first five runs before QC got on the board in the third inning.

With its back against the wall the Bulldogs came out swinging in the fifth inning as they put up 10 runs and secured back-to-back district championships.

In that fifth inning, Lauren Carrell started things off with a single followed by a double off the bat of Erica Lavoie.

Brenna Turbeville got on base after an infield error which scored both Carrell and Lavoie.

Serenity Oden singled scoring Kylie Parker who had come in to run for Turbeville. Trinity Oden walked and Mallori Stringer reached base on an error.

Laurel Moore hit into a fielder’s choice but reached on an error. Kelsey Nash hit a double and brought in two runs. A that point QC is up 8-5.

Jacey Cauthorn doubled in a run and Lavoie brought her home with an infield error by Hooks. Serenity Oden singled in the final run of the inning and the game.

Trinity Oden scattered nine hits with 11 strikeouts, and from the plate hit a single.

Turbeville had two RBIs in the contest, Serenity Oden had three base hits with three ribbies, Moore had an RBI, Nash hit a double and two RBIs, Cauthorn hit a double and had a ribeye, Carrell had two hits with a double and Lavoie added an RBI double.

The Lady Bulldogs play Mineola in the first round of the playoffs at Pine Tree High School.

Game one will be Thursday at 6 p.m., game two will be Saturday at 7 p.m. and (if necessary) game three will be Monday at 6 p.m.
