Lady Rabbs crowned Area champs, Rabbs place second

Atlanta and Queen City competed in the 13-3A and 14-3A Area Track Meet at Atlanta on Apr. 19.

Atlanta Varsity Girls

In the 100m dash JD Larry earned Area champ status after placing first at 12.86, in the 200m dash Makaylin King placed sixth at 27.07, in the 400m dash Aysia Heard placed fifth at 1:03.14, in the 100m hurdles Elliana Edwards placed third at 17.79 and in the 300m hurdles Amelia Jones placed fifth at 49.89.

In the 800m run Kaylon “KP” Partain placed fourth at 2:28.34, in the 1600m run Lucy Ransom earned Area title status after placing first at 5:43.50 and Aurelia Giesler placed sixth at 6:04.41 and in the 3200m run Ransom placed third at 12:33.30 and Emma Allen placed sixth at 13:56.97.

The 4x1 and 4x2 relay teams earned Area champ status after placing first overall. The 4x100m team of Shamijala Gillam, Toya Hurd, King and Larry placed first at 49.11, the 4x200m team of the same lineup placed first at 1:45.21 and the 4x4 team of AnneMarie Hanner, Markavia Garner, KP and Hurd placed third at 4:10.44.

In long jump Larry placed fifth at 15 feet, 11 3/4 inches, in shot Keymya Smith placed sixth at 30 feet, 5 inches and in high jump Caitlynn Bailey placed second at 5 feet, 2 inches.

Larry, Edwards, Partain, Ransom, Bailey and the 4x1, 4x2, 4x4 relays teams advanced to Regionals.

Varsity Boys

In the 200m dash Markeylin Batton earned Area champ status after placing first at 22.27 and Cooper Swanson placed sixth at 22.75, in the 400m dash Eli Riojas placed fourth at 52.16, in the 110m hurdles Stacy Darty placed fifth at 16.69 and in the 300m hurdles Darty earned Area champ status after placing first at 40.80 and Sye Stroman placed sixth at 42.51.

In the 800m run Matthew Morin placed third at 1:59.79 and Chris Swanson placed fifth at 2:10.77, in the 1600m run Morin placed fifth at 4:56.19 and Swanson placed sixth at 5:02.53 and in the 3200m run Campbell Autrey placed sixth at 11:41.69.

The Rabbs swept the relays and earned Area title status as the 4x100m team of JaBranden Wells, Batton, Isaiah Chandler and Cooper Swanson placed first at 41.51, the 4x200m team of the same lineup placed first at 1:26.44 and the 4x400m team of Riojas, Wells, Chandler and Kam Dickerson placed first at 3:25.57.

Caden Walker placed third in shot with a toss of 42 feet even, Aidan Boston placed second in high jump at 6 feet even and in triple jump Darty placed second at 44 feet, 10 1/2 inches and Marquavion Owens placed fourth at 43 feet, 10 inches.

Batton, Riojas, Darty, Morin, Walker, Boston, Owens and the 4x1, 4x2, 4x4 relays teams advanced to Regionals.

Queen City Varsity Boys

In the 400m dash Trent Granberry placed third at 51.16 and advanced to Regionals. In pole vault Jeremiah Henderson placed sixth at 10 feet, 6 inches. The 4x100m relay team of Nicolas Herring, DJ Henson, Delvon Federick and Granberry placed fourth at 43.55 and advanced to Regionals. The 4x200m relay team of Herring, Henson, Federick and Daketrick Smith placed sixth at 1:32.93.

Varsity Girls

In the 100m hurdles Lola Gladden placed fifth at 18.00 and in the 300m hurdles Toni McCellon wrapped up the Area title with a first placed finish at 47.85.

The 4x100m relay team of Amiya Young, Serenity Oden, Cassidy Johnson and McCellon placed sixth at 52.26.

In discus Makenna Hamilton placed second at 97 feet, 7 1/2 inches and teammate Gracie Alexander placed fifth at 95 feet, 9 1/2 inches, in triple jump Johnson placed second at 36 feet, 1 1/2 inches, in high jump McCellon placed sixth at 4 feet, 6 inches and in pole vault Reagan Hargrave placed sixth at 7 feet even.

McCellon, Hamilton and Johnson advanced to Regionals.

The 3A-Region 2 track meet will take place Friday, Apr. 28 and Saturday, Apr. 29, in Whitehouse.
