Atlanta boys, Atlanta girls, JV boys win Rabbs’ Relays
Atlanta had itself a day at the 28th running of the Atlanta Lions Club/Gordon Pynes/Runnin’ Rabbs Relays on Mar. 18, as the varsity boys, varsity girls and JV boys’ teams all won titles.
The JV girls dominated the field otherwise but was overtaken by a large Nacogdoches group.
Varsity Boys
The varsity boys’ squad won its sixth consecutive title and 19th overall in its own relays. In the history of the race the event has been cancelled on three times due to weather and COVID.
Saturday was a beautiful day for a track meet and the varsity boys took advantage as they outdistanced a crowded field.
Atlanta racked up 137 points followed by Marshall with 112, Pleasant Grove with 82, Pine Tree with 47, Hallsville with 43, Tyler Grace with 34, Lindale with 33, Prairiland with 30, Liberty-Eylau with 26.5, Redwater with 18.5, Pewitt with 18, Sabine with 14, Gilmer with 10, DeKalb with six, Daingerfield with three and Longview with two.
In the 100m dash Markeylin batton placed third at 11.18, in the 100m hurdles Stacy Darty placed fourth at 16.21 and in the 300m hurdles Darty placed third at 40.91.
In the 800m run Matthew Morin placed third at 2:02.66, in the 1600m run Chris Swanson placed fifth at 4:56.70 and in the 3200m run Morin placed first at 10:28.34.
The 4x100m relay team of Cooper Swanson, JaBranden Wells, Ahmani Jackson and Isaiah Chandler placed second at 43.01, the 4x200m relay team of Eli Riojas, Swanson, Wells and Chandler placed first at 1:30.15 and the 4x4 relay team of Morin, Riojas, Wells and Chandler placed second at 3:36.59.
In the long jump event Darty placed first at 19 feet, 7 inches and Marquavion Owens placed fourth at 19 feet, 3 inches, in triple jump Darty placed first at 42 feet, 10 inches and Owens fourth at 40 feet, 2 inches, in high jump Shayden Williams placed first at 6 feet, 4 inches and Aidan Boston placed fourth at 6 feet even, in shot Caden Walker placed third with a throw of 42 feet, 10 1/2 inches and in pole vault Chris Swanson placed fourth at 10 feet even.
Varsity Girls
The varsity girls’ team won its own relays for the second consecutive year. The Lady Rabbs rolled up 124 points followed by Nacogdoches with 84, Gilmer with 77, Longview had 73, L-E 55, PG 55, Marshall 52, Tyler Grace 42, Daingerfield 21, Redwater eight and Hooks two.
In the 100m dash JD Larry placed fifth at 12.91, in the 400m dash Anne Marie Hanner placed fourth at 1:05.70 and Markavia Garner placed sixth at 1:06.36 and in the 300m hurdles Amelia Jones placed fourth at 50.49 and Elliana Edwards placed fifth at 52.59.
In the 800m run Kaylon ‘KP’ Partain placed second at 2:27.63 and Lucy Ransom placed third at 2:30.76, in the 1600m run Ransom placed third at 5:54.10 and Ella Stewart placed sixth at 6:07.27 and in the 3200m run Aurelia Giesler, Stewart and Emma Allen placed 4-5-6 with times of 13:38.05, 13:59.93 and 14:01.36 respectively.
The 4x100m real team of Toya Hurd, Makaylin King, Larry and Shamijala Gillam placed first at 49.23, the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed first at 1:46.24 and the 4x4 relay team of Martin, Hurd, Gillam and KP placed second at 4:19.14.
In long jump Larry placed first with a mark of 15 feet, 6 inches and Hurd placed fifth at 14 feet, 11 inches, Caitlynn Bailey placed first in high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 2 inches, Keymya Smith placed fourth in shot with a toss of 30 feet, 11 1/2 inches and Chanya Clark placed sixth in discus with a toss of 87 feet, 2 inches.
JV Boys
The junior varsity boys’ team put up 165 points which edges out PG with 155, Marshall had 152, Redwater 30, L-E 28, Hallsville 24, Prairiland 12, Daingerfield 10 and McLeod nine.
In the 100m dash Bralyn Rowe placed first at 11.62 and Jalarion Andrews placed fourth at 11.73, in the 200m dash Marshawn Woodberry placed first at 23.55, in the 400m dash Chase Kindred placed second at 54.86, in the 100m hurdles Sye Stroman placed first at 17.43, Marquayvious Richardson placed second at 17.89 and DC Range placed fourth at 19.41 and in the 300m hurdles Ricradson placed first and Stroman second at 44.34 and 45.74 respectively.
In the 800m run Ian Bard placed fifth at 2:18.09, in the 1600m run Andrew Allen placed first at 5:19.78, Owen Flint placed second at 5:20.80 and Grant Allen placed fifth at 5:35.23 and in the 3200m run Andrew Allen placed first at 11:34.68, Flint second at 11:35.15 and Grant Allen sixth at 11:59.45.
The 4x100m relay team of Andrews, Kindred, Woodberry and Stroman placed third 45.41, 4x200m relay team of Marcellus Kirk, Kayden Linwood, Andrews and Rowe placed fourth at 1:38.34 and the 4x4 relay team of Bard, Linwood, Kindred and Woodberry placed third at 3:51.60.
In long jump Linwood placed fourth at 17 feet even, in triple jump Stroman and Linwood finished 3-4 with marks of 36 feet, 7 inches and 34 feet, 6 inches respectively and in discus Tevin Thursby placed third at 95 feet, 6 inches.
JV Girls
The junior varsity girls dominated the competition but ran into a large buzzsaw in 5A Nacogdoches.
Nac placed first with 182 points, Atlanta followed with 132, Daingerfield had 65, L-E 64, PG 64, Mc-Leod 24 and Gilmer 14.
In the 100m dash Carlajah Adger placed fifth and Serenity Duckett sixth at 13.83 and 14.03 respectively, in the 200m dash Zariah Johnson placed fourth at 29.14, in the 400m dash Breonna Phelps placed first at 1:08.65, in the 100m hurdles Jaliyah Brown placed second at 18.85 and Brooklyn Thompson placed fifth at 20.19 and in the 300m hurdles Brown placed second at 55.97 and Thompson placed fourth at 58.34.
In the 800m run Addie Giesler placed third at 2:53.50 and in the 1600m run Giesler placed first at 6:30.37.
The relay teams burned the track with great finishes. The 4x100m relay team of KK Wells, Aysia Heard, Johnon and Kym Sheppard placed first at 53.25, the 4x2300m relay team of Heard, Adger, Johnson and Sheppard placed second at 1:56.01 and the 4x400m relay team of Alaija Starling, Brown, Heard and Phelps placed first at 4:43.00.
In long jump Adger placed first with a mark of 15 feet, 2 1/2 inches, in triple jump Adger placed first at 28 feet, 9 inches and in discus Ryleigh Paige placed sixth at 59 feet, 6 inches.
McLeod
McLeod’s JV boys’ 4x400m relay team of Kannon Dempsey, Brayden Blair, Jackson Smith and Braden Patrick placed fourth at 3:57.14, and in shot Tristan Kennedy placed sixth at 32 feet, 3 inches.
For McLeod’s JV girls’ team, Lyla McKnight placed second at 1:08.92 in the 400m dash and Samantha Ramos placed second at 6:33.45 in the 1600m run and second at 15:21.10 in the 3200m run.
