LINDEN LOCALE: Spring Fling kickoff
Linden locales kicked off spring with a fling Saturday afternoon at the square, with food, festivities, flowers, and folksy homemade specialty merchandise from vendors.
Kiddos frolicked on the back lawn of the Historic Courthouse square, while the street was lined with folks selling homemade wares, art, plants, wood carvings, clothes and more, while lemonade and funnel cakes were on hand.
MBS Craft Studios set up shop selling T-Shirts with positive slogans like ‘Mental Health Matters’.
Linden Library Director Denise Haas sat just across the street from The Olde 1852 Market Company to visit with fellow east Texans and enjoy the festivities. Haas had just left the market/boutique where she bought a green T-Shirt promoting this year’s Wildflower Trails of Linden.
Haas said she enjoys working as library director, where they do frequent book readings and will soon have an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7.
“We like to get with the kids and do lots of crafts and book readings,” Haas said, adding she is particularly excited about their big Easter egg hunt that is in the works.
Judy Evans, further down the square had set up shop to sell a variety of succulents she had rooted, such as a couple of mother-of-millions, aloe vera plants and more. She also sold homemade gardening crafts.
“I get dirt fever,” Evans said, half-joking. “But seriously, plants are my therapy.”
Evans laughingly said her family knows that when she is working in her greenhouse to leave her be.
Linden’s First Baptist Church was out and about, along with Opportunities, Inc.
Beautiful handpainted cards, calendars and journals using watercolor-type materials were sold by Robyn Moore and Corey Gray, with Opportunities Inc’s Ken Lamon.
Nearby, Custom Design Jewelry was a hit at a vendor booth where sisters Sarah and Cortaney Dobbs sold their wares. Sara Dobbs specialized in custom- made jewelry while Cortaney had 3-D resin paintings for sale.
“I love doing custom designs and seeing the creation through to fruition,” Sarah Dobbs said.
Hippie Chic Eclectic Boutique’s husband and wife team had everything from woodworking decor to leather inlaid jewelry. Their favorite items were their belt buckles, custom earrings, and hand-carved decor.
“My favorite is the owl,” he said of his work.
As vendors began to shut down and volunteers started to clean up, Hippie Chic Eclectic Boutique owners said they were very much looking forward to Wildflower Trails in April.
“We really appreciate all our volunteers associated with our event because, without them, events like these wouldn’t be possible,” Megan Kirkland, Linden Main Street manager said.
Linden Main Street also thanked all vendors and attendees for coming out and supporting the event, as well as small businesses in Linden.
“We have a lot of good folks down here and we take care of each other,” Kirkland said.
“This was just a fun event for downtown folks to have fellowship, and everyone is so welcoming and friendly and we look forward to seeing you all at our next event.”
“It was a lot of fun seeing everyone enjoy the square,” she said.
