Atlanta track competes in Pine Tree

Atlanta’s track program competed in the Graham Knowles Relays at Pine Tree High School on Feb. 24.

All of the schools present were 5A except Atlanta, Liberty-Eylau, Gilmer, Jefferson and White Oak.

Varsity Boys

The varsity boys aren’t at full speed and loaded just yet and still finished fourth behind Longview, Hallsville and host Pine Tree.

In the 100m dash Markeylin Batton placed fourth at 11.15, in the 200m dash Cooper Swanson placed fourth at 23.13, Eli Riojas placed fourth in the 400m dash at 53.78 and Matthew Morin placed fourth in the 800m run at 2:06.64 and sixth in the 3200m run at 10:33.29.

The relay teams burned the track with two first place finishes and a second place finish.

In the 4x100m relay JaBranden Wells, Batton, Swanson and Isaiah Chandler placed first at 42.02. Longview finished second at 42.07 followed by Tyler Legacy, Hallsville, Kilgore, Mt. Pleasant and Pine Tree.

In the 4x200m relay Ahmani Jackson, Chandler, Swanson and Wells placed second at 1:29.63 and in the 4x4 Riojas, Chandler, Batton and Wells placed first at 3:29.30 which topped Longview, Hallsville, White Oak, Pine Tree, Kilgore, Mt. Pleasant, Tyler Legacy and Kaufman.

Varsity Girls

The varsity girls placed sixth behind the bigger programs such as Longview, Kaufman, Pine Tree, Hallsville and Tyler Legacy.

In the 100m dash JD Larry placed second at 12.92, in the 200m dash Shamijala Gillam placed sixth at 28.19 and in the 800m run Kaylon Partain placed second at 2:29.81.

The 4x100m relay team of Toya Hurd, Makaylin King, Larry and Gillam placed third at 50.30, the 4x200m relay team of Hurd, Larry, Markavia Garner and Gillam placed second at 1:47.79 and the 4x400m relay team of Makayla Martin, Hurd, Garner and Partain placed fifth at 4:20.69.

Hurd and Larry placed 4-5 in the long jump with marks of 16 feet, 6 inches and 16 feet, 4 inches respectively, Caitlynn Bailey placed third in the high jump at 5 feet even and Keymya Smith placed third in shot with a heave of at 32 feet, 11 inches.

JV Boys

The junior varsity boys’ team placed fifth overall.

In the 100m dash Chase Kindred placed sixth at 11.97, in the 200m dash Asher Wells placed first at 23.60, in the 400m dash Kindred placed third at 56.91, in the 110m hurdles Sye Stroman placed second at 18.24 and in the 300m hurdles Stroman placed first at 44.01.

The 4x100m relay team of Jalarion Andrews, Wells, Stroman and Carmello Henderson placed fourth at 46.09, the 4x200m relay team of Omareia Kinney, Kayden Linwood, Derrick Talton and Henderson placed fifth at 1:39.49 and the 4x400m relay team of Brennon Allen, Ian Bard, Wells and Kindred placed second at 3:45.49.

JV Girls

The junior varsity girls placed fourth overall in a strong field.

In the 100m dash Zariah Johnson placed sixth at 14.20, in the 200m dash Carlajah Adger placed second at 28.45, in the 400m dash Breonna Phelps placed fifth at 1:10.29, in the 300m hurdles Jaliyah Brown placed third at 56.03 and Elliana Edwards placed fifth at 56.62 and Lucy Ransom placed second in the 800m run at 2:37.14 and first in the 1600m run at 5:52.17.

The relay teams notched two third place finishes as the 4x200m relay team of Alaija Starling, Johnson, Adger and Kambria Dickerson finished at 1:57.88 and the 4x400m relay team of Laura De Perianaes, Starling, Serenity Duckett and Brooklyn Thompson finished with a time of 4:37.68.

In field events, Adger placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, 8 inches and Edwards placed third in high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 4 inches.
