Linden Rush Street cement stabilization underway

Rush Street began cement stabilization over the weekend after wet weather, internal delays from the state and waiting for much-needed change orders, according to Linden, Texas City officials.

“Today, Rush Street will be receiving cement stabilization,” according to Linden city officials on the City of Linden, Texas Facebook page posted Thursday, February 16. “Weather permitting, within the next few weeks, Rush Street should be overlaid. Public frustration is well understood.”

City management said that the grant project had been unfortunately affected by needed change orders, Texas Department of Agriculture internal delays and wet weather. Cement stabilization requires specified climate conditions are met in or- der to work favorably.

However, Kaufman and Banger streets are also slated for repair this month.

Both Kaufman and Banger were approved by the city council for repairs in January, with Francis Excavating awarded the bid for the job.

The $545,852.30 bid made by Francis for the Kaufman and Banger Streets project was close to $40,000 lower than other bids. This money was saved because the company is closer than others, and won’t have the extra expenses of moving a lot of their equipment, City Manager Lee Elliot said.

“Francis is the same firm who repaired School Lane and worked on refurbishing a large retention pond for drainage at the park,” Elliot said. “We received a $2 million dollar general land office grant to fix that.”

Elliot and city officials have been eager to get street projects done with WIldflower Trails approaching in April.

“Fortunately, we will not have to run changes through a state agency for Kaufman,” Elliot said. “Kaufman should move a lot more quickly and is funded through the street bond revenue.”

Wildflower Trails of Texas- Linden is accepting vendor applications for the April 28-29th event. Applications can be downloaded from their Website, wildflowertrailsoftexas. org/lindenvendors or picked up at Linden City Hall, Linden EDC office and Olde 1852 Market Company.
